Schoenstatt is a Catholic lay movement that strives to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the example and guidance of Mary. Schoenstatt was founded on October 18, 1914, by Father Joseph Kentenich in the little Schoenstatt valley in the Rhine region of west-central Germany. The word “Schoenstatt” comes from the German for “beautiful” (schön) and “place” (statt).
Schoenstatt is deeply and devotedly Marian and has repeatedly experienced how the love of Mary opens new avenues to a vibrant relationship with Christ, to the Holy Spirit, to God the Father, and to a renewal of love of neighbor and self. Not least of all, the love of Mary has helped many grow in love for the Church. This is in keeping with Pope John Paul II’s message to the Schoenstatt Family during an audience in 1985:
“An authentic Marian spirituality leads to a deep love for the Church.”
All are invited to attend the Schoenstatt of Indiana’s Prayer Hour with Adoration and Benediction and Rosary on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 1916 Meharry St, Lafayette. August's event takes place on August 17.
Also, a Rosary Walk takes place on the 18th of each month at 1:30 p.m. at the Schoenstatt Wayside Shrine on Highways 18 and 421 West, in Delphi. Dedicated by Bishop William L. Higi in 2005, the Schoenstatt Wayside Shrine is a place of grace nestled on the outskirts of Delphi in a wilderness setting. This Shrine is dedicated to the “Mother of the Eucharist” and is a place of pilgrimage where people can experience relief from the stresses of daily life and receive the three pilgrimage graces: The Grace of being at home with God, The Grace of inner transformation, and The Grace of an apostolic mission.
