We are blessed to have a vibrant, large, and growing parish community! With that size and growth and the parking restrictions of a college campus, it can be challenging to find a close, legal parking spot at or near St. Tom’s. Nonetheless, we must! Otherwise, we may find a yellow parking ticket on our windshields when we depart from church. Below is information about parking at St. Tom’s for those who are new to the parish, including two
updates about parking beginning this fall.
Other nearby parking options are outlined in green and are accessible after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends without a permit.
Campus and St. Tom’s parking is restricted on weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. St. Tom’s parking includes 17 regular and 2 ADA spaces in the paved lot on the east side of the Church and 6 spaces in Purdue’s gravel lot adjacent to the south side of the Church, all identified by signs.
Spots in the paved lot are primarily for resident parishioners and guests to St. Tom’s. BUT all resident parishioners and guests parking in either area (the paved lot on the east side of the Church or the designated St. Tom’s spots in the gravel lot) during weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. MUST display a St. Tom’s temporary permit. Those who do not have a permit displayed from their rearview mirror risk a parking ticket from Purdue. All Purdue-issued parking tickets must be resolved with the Purdue Parking Services Office. A common parking violation is backing into a parking space; always park with your vehicle’s front wheels facing the curb stop/wheel stop.
If you are a resident parishioner, you may obtain a St. Tom’s temporary permit with either a specific date or range of dates up to 90 days at a time from the Parish Office reception desk. The temporary permit, visibly displayed from your vehicle’s rearview mirror, allows you to park in either the St. Tom’s designated spaces in the gravel lot or St. Tom’s paved lot.
Note:
Parking lot restrictions are NOT enforced by Purdue after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends and holidays.
Current policy states that students may NOT park in St. Tom’s parking spots on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Most students live within walking distance of the parish, and those living off campus may obtain and use their Purdue “C” parking permit in a lot about three blocks from St. Tom’s. Other means of student transportation to St. Tom’s include CityBus (free-of-charge rides with a Purdue ID), VEO standing and sitting scooter rentals, and available bike and skateboard parking racks.
If you have questions, please email St. Tom’s at [email protected]. Your patience and understanding with this change in our parking policy are prayerfully appreciated.
