St. Tom's Facilities Committee includes parishioner volunteers who give their time and talent to assist with the management of building grounds and physical assets of the church. Generous and dedicated parishioners willingly work hard to keep the church facilities safe and in good repair and appearance.

Church-owned facilities must remain in good condition so that church members and friends can worship, attend Religious Education classes and adult education, and participate in youth activities and other programs. In addition, the church is open to university students and organizations, community organizations, and community programs that use the facilities for a place to study, meeting space, and other special events.

The Facility Committee reports directly to the Pastorate/Parish Office Manager, Director of Liturgy.

The Facility Committee membership is open to any active parishioner or friend of the parish approved by the Pastor.

As selected by the Pastor, at least one member of the Facility Committee will serve on the Finance Council.
One member of the Facilities Committee will be recognized as the primary coordinator of the activities at the church and church office facilities.

- Identify and coordinate facility maintenance-related activities for the church under the direction of the parish Pastorate Office / Operations Manager.
- Identify and coordinate approved facility maintenance-related activities for the Dominican Residential Facility under the direction of the Superior of the Dominican Community (the Priest responsible for the Dominican Residential Facility).
- Coordinate activities that involve capital expenditures over $25,000, as well as those projects that require external assistance and expertise, with the Facilities Management Coordinator for the Dioceses of Lafayette-in-Indiana.
- Inspect the church facility, the grounds, and equipment to ensure that they are kept clean, neat, attractive, and in good repair. This includes all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, computer network, lighting, building access, and security systems.
- Provide a safe and welcoming facility environment by ensuring outside lighting, landscaping, and building structures are maintained properly.
- Ensure that repairs are made at a reasonable price, with quality workmanship and materials.
- Recommend facility-related purchases to increase efficiency and provide the best value to the parish.
- Work with the Pastor on project plans and match the plans with available financial resources.
- Review annual plans to help support budget preparation.
- Develop a risk-based preventive maintenance schedule to ensure equipment and systems function properly and are operational for the average life of the system.
- Develop short-term and long-term (5, 10, or 15 years) plans that are used to calculate budgetary needs leading up to when those items need to be addressed.
- Conduct annual checks of life safety systems to ensure they are in proper working order.
- Identify building/facility equipment needs and ensure all necessary items are available and in good working order.
- Support church-related special events by developing required facility-related equipment and modifications, overseeing the set-up and tear-down activities, and performing general maintenance for church events.
- Meet bi-monthly to discuss strategies for managing church facilities, identify facility issues that need to be addressed, and plan for future expansions or remodels.

While support will be provided for projects based on an “as needed” basis, normal tasks such as ongoing landscaping and lawn care, janitorial, large-scale painting, and other tasks not outlined above are not within the Facility Committee’s realm of responsibility.
